In late hour of the night during the war in the Gaza Strip, 14-year-old Tala Samour was jolted awake by the thunderous explosion. “A red light filled the sky, like the Day of Judgment. Two of our neighbors’ homes were bombed, and rubble fell on my head."

Tala described how she managed to escape from under the rubble. It shocked her when she saw her body covered in debris. “The red light approached from the street, bombed my best friend’s home and the neighbor’s house. Everywhere around me was rubble, and everything was burning. People screamed, ‘Is somebody here? Can anyone hear us?’ hoping someone had survived."

Tala was deeply affected when she recalled how she freed herself from the rubble, with debris filling her nose and mouth. Her best friend died from suffocation under the rubble. “My friend died because she wasn’t rescued. She was still alive when she was trapped,” Tala said, tears filling her eyes.

The story of Tala reflects the deep suffering of the Civil Defense workers in the Gaza Strip, who are desperately trying to save the lives of the injured before they leave this world beneath the rubble. According to Tala, “The civil defense workers spent four hours trying to rescue people trapped under the rubble, but the sounds of cries for help were silenced. I cried in pain over the death of my best friend. No one rescued her. Civil defense turned on their phone lights, but those trapped under the rubble suffocated to death."

Tala’s feelings in this sentence reflect the psyche of many residents of Gaza. She expressed conflicting feelings: “If I die in this airstrike, it would be easier than living today."

"We called all the international organizations to provide the necessary equipment to rescue people from under the rubble of homes. many people have been trapped under the rubble ".for months, and we couldn't get them out

Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for Gaza Civil Defense, emphasized in a press statement that conditions in Gaza are becoming increasingly dire: “Fuel shortages have forced eight of our twelve rescue vehicles in western Gaza to stop operating. If the remaining ones fail, emergency services will collapse entirely, including ambulance, municipal, and civil defense operations. ”The Israeli occupation is continually bombing human tents and homes, destroying infrastructure, and wiping out the means of survival for civilians in the Gaza Strip. This results in the civil protection forces being unable to perform their duties due to limited rescue equipment, which hampers their efforts to save people trapped under the rubble. Furthermore, when they attempt to rescue those in need, they are also targeted by Israeli occupation bombings.

Basal added, "We called all the international organizations to provide the necessary equipment to rescue people from under the rubble of homes. many people have been trapped under the rubble for months, and we couldn't get them out from under the rubble."

the civil defense crew found bodies that were dismembered, badly burned, and severely bloated, with visible signs of intense thermal injuries.

He continued, "all the appeals to the international organization didn’t work, because there was a U.S veto to destroy everything in the Gaza Strip."

Following the bombing, the target tents, the civil defense crew found bodies that were dismembered, badly burned, and severely bloated, with visible signs of intense thermal injuries. Basal said, "This condition is that the Israeli occupation is using an internationally banned weapon because there is some of the martyr's body we can't find, and this is the possibility of vaporization."

Several months ago the Israeli occupation warned it would bomb Al-Arqam school in the east of Gaza again, and gave people only a few minutes to leave. However, the Palestinian paramedic Noh Alshaghnopy risked his life to rescue the person who was stuck under the rubble.

Noh told the man, "I will stay with you. Either we leave together or become martyrs together." With the help of a friend, he rescued the stuck man and got limited equipment to remove the feet stuck between the steel bars of the column."

Basal emphasizes again that the Gaza Strip was suffering from a near-total breakdown of the medical and humanitarian infrastructure due to Israeli occupation actions. And Rescue teams are working tirelessly with almost no resources, facing overwhelming challenges to save lives and provide crucial humanitarian support. “We call on the international community to pressure the occupying foeces to halt the war, open the crossings, and allow the entry of medical supplies and humanitarian aid,” Basal said.
